Not Alone

"Still, this city has the highest murder rate in the country. I'd rather be stupid than dead," Phoenix watched Edgeworth. "Though it seems as thought only the rich get murdered."

Miles felt a pang of nervousness shoot through him. There had only really been one time where he felt truly afraid in this city and that was years ago. He slowly scanned the food court. 'Have I been blind to the crime rate? I should watch the news more...'

Phoenix looked at Edgeworth, and noticed the change in his demeanor. "Hey, are you alright, Edgey?" he reached out for the prosecutor's hand hesitantly, wanting to comfort him. "I didn't mean to scare you."

Miles turned his attention back to Phoenix. "Heh, I'll be fine, Wright." He smiled slightly but sunk into his chair when he saw the other man getting closer. "I just scared myself, that's all."

'Why am I here...?'

Phoenix distanced himself again. "Oh, right." He was trying his hardest not to blush. 'What, does he think I'm gay? No, I was offering comfort, he seemed scared....'

Miles could feel the atmosphere getting heavier as the silence continued. He knew he had to break it somehow. He did the first thing that came to mind. "So!" He hit the table loud enough to grab Phoenix's attention. "Wright, I hope I wasn't interrupting any plans you had for after you were done working on the case."

"Oh, no, it's fine," Phoenix smiled. "I was just going to go home and watch Steel Samurai with Maya. And I think you're wrong," he slammed both hand on the table, "the two hand table slam is way more effective!"

"Objection!" Miles slammed one hand on the table. "Using one hand frees up the other to make forceful gestures!"

"Objection!" Phoenix stood up to slam the tables with both hands once more. "Using both hands allows you to make an intense face, therefore setting the mood more efficiently!"

"Objection!" Miles stood up and slammed the table with one hand, staring at the slightly shorter Phoenix. "Using one hand can create a serious face as WELL as intense gestures!"

"Objection!" Phoenix looked at Edgeworth. "The gesture takes away from the facial expression! You can't fully appreciated either!"

"Grr..." Miles could tell that he was getting beaten. There wasn't much else he could do besides... "I suppose you are correct, Wright." He said with a sigh. "But remember if this were court, I wouldn't have given up so easily."

Phoenix frowned slightly, not proud of his easy victory. "Aw, come on, that was no fun! Why'd you give up so easily?"

"Because I'm pretty sure that fighting like we were in court over such a trivial matter isn't the best idea. In the middle of the food court. When we could get kicked out for making too much noise." Miles looked over at the security guard giving the pair the evil eye.

Phoenix sighed, "You're such a goody goody, Edgeworth. Live a little." He looked over at the security guard and waved at him.

"Well excuse me but I don't like getting in trouble." Miles turned to walk away. "I'll assume you're done with your food?"

"Yeah," Phoenix threw away his empty tray into the trashcan. "Now what do we do?" He walked alongside Edgeworth.

"I honestly hadn't planned anything out..." Miles' face flushed slightly in embarrassment. "This was... Kind of spur of the moment, you see..."

"Then do you wanna go to the bookshop? Maybe catch a movie? Play some video games?" Phoenix asked. "I could do anything." He looked over at Edgeworth.

"Eh, I don't need any books and all the movies out seem like utter garbage. Maybe we could play video games?" Miles wanted to do something that Phoenix wanted to do. After all, he DID invite him out.

"Sure, wanna come over to my place? I doubt you have any video games at home," Phoenix smiled at the thought. "Maya got the new Steel Samurai game for Wii, wanna try it out with me?"

"I don't see the harm in it. As long as you don't burn another part of my body." Miles smirked. "Where did you park, anyway?"

"Um, right here," Phoenix headed over to the bike stand, and noticed something was terribly wrong. "Wha-?" He frantically looked around, and found the remains of his lock. "OBJECTION!" Phoenix could feel his heart breaking. Alright, so it wasn't the best bike, but he had owned it for what seemed like an eternity. "Someone stole her...."

"Phoenix?" Miles walked towards Phoenix. "Someone stole who? Did... your bike get stolen?"

Phoenix silently nodded, trying not to cry. "She's gone...now I have to get another one..."
