Turnabout Decaf

And so a week passed since the last meeting of Ema and Apollo. As she had promised, the day came and the two met up at the coffee shop. The date played out as a normal one would, they ordered their usual meals and shared glances from across the table. The night had been getting a tad late, but it didn't bother Apollo. More time with Ema was great! (Not GMing, we planned this)

Ema stared at Apollo. She never really thought that he was this kind.

"This is nice Polly... Thanks for coming."

"Well, thanks for inviting me!"

Apollo smiled, rubbing the back of his head. "I'm glad we could do this again!"

Suddenly, a noise emits from the kitchen in the back of the coffee shop.

"What was that?" Ema sniffed the air. "...Blood?"

She can sniff blood?

Apollo was stunned at her keen sense of smell, but he also heard the noise. Maybe someone fell? "Someone probably fell over...we should go check if he's okay."

Apollo got up from his seat and hurried off to where he heard the noise. He may have been a little clumsy and boyish during their conversations, but he was still an attorney, and could jump into action when he needed to. "I'm pretty sure it came from the back room."

"Ok. Lets go check on him."

They head over to the door.

The scent of blood is getting stronger... I'm not so sure someone fell...

Apollo walked into the darkened back room, wondering where the light switch was. "I can't really see anything in this darkness." He felt around, and eventually switched the light on.

It was awful. A chef lying there, dead. Stabbed. A blood puddle was surrounding his body. Pans and pots were knocked over. His body was pale. He had a name tag saying: Oscar Fournier.

"H-Hes dead!"

Apollo took a moment to close his jaw and began to ponder. "So...who else was here tonight besides us?"

This is uncanny! There just HAD to be a murder scene on a day like tonight!

Well, Bellboy was here... And apparently this... Oscar guy is here.

Or rather, was here...

But... why would Bellboy kill? We know him, hes a nice guy. It had to be someone else... but he was the only one that could've done it...

"Regardless of what's happened here, the first thing we need to do is call the police." Apollo mentioned as he took a cell out of his pocket and dialled the proper authorities, but couldn't get his eyes off the body.

Ema examined the area. She noticed a bloody glove shoved between an oven and the wall.

"Hmm... this could be some pretty good evidence."

-Rubber gloves! No fingerprints on the crime scene.-

"Ema! Do you really think we should be picking around like this? We're tampering with the crime scene! They're gonna say it was you, now!" Apollo was sure not to touch anything while he made his way over to her. "I just think we should wait for the authorities."

"Are you kidding? We want to get all the good stuff before they do, don't we!?"

-Ema chucked a snackoo at his head in disappointment.-

"What do you mean!? Get all the good stuff for what? Just because I'm an attorney doesn't mean I'm involved in every case I come across...! I really think we shou-" Apollo was interrupted by a Snackoo hurdling towards him and eventually hitting him on the forehead. He pouted in disapproval.

Suddenly the Bellboy walked in. He looked sad.

"So... your not going to take my case...?" A tear rolled down his eye.

"If you shall not, I will turn myself in... Not like this business is going anywhere now..."

Apollo turned and jumped when he heard a voice.

"ACK! I-I didn't know you were there...!"

"W-Well, nobody is accusing anybody right now. So far, we're all innocent. I just don't see how we can foretell anything until the police arrive..."

-Suddenly, the police arrive. They ask a few questions to each of us and take in Bellboy as a suspect-

"Congratulations, you got your case. NOW LET ME LOOK AT STUFF."
They argue for a while until the police are done scoping the place.

"Now, Lets do some investigation!" Ema examined a few things. Hmm, thats funny... this pan is missing its handle...

"Wha- Ack- But I-" Things were moving much too quickly for Apollo to try and tell anyone anything, and before he knew it, he had just taken on a new case. What did he know about his client? Nothing. How much time did they have to investigate the scene? None. Did he have any hope of winning this case? Not a chance.

"Ema...you being a detective and scientist and all...doesn't this mean you're supposed to be working for the prosecutors? I don't think you're allowed to help me, let alone poke around with the police in the other room..."

"Nah, I don't even know who the prosecutor is. (If there even will be one...) And besides, I've helped you before haven't I? "

Ema looked around a bit more. Something caught her eye.

"Hmm, whats this?" She examined closer. "Aha! A footprint! Remember how to do this, Polly?"

She took out her scientific equipment with a sparkle in her eye.

Apollo sighed. Ema had many different crazy contraptions, all with weird instructions. "Of...course I remember, it's awesome! But uh...why don't you go one more time to show me."

And since when did it become okay to bring crime scene investigating equipment on dates?!

"Well, you place a strip of this fabric like this...
and then you roll the roller over it like this... and you wait a while and..."
Ema continued to blabber on about scientific things.
"...And PRESTO! The footprint is now on the fabric!"
Her eyes gleamed with joy.

"Why don't you look around. I seem to be doing all the work."

"Well...! You were the one who wanted to snoop around! You're going to fast for me to even keep up!"

Apollo poked his forehead with his right index finger. "So...I guess if I were to think about this for a moment, we need to figure out a couple things. If you're sure he was stabbed, then we should try and find the kitchen knife that did him in."

"If possible, we need to find some sort of motive the Bellboy would have. If we can't find anything, that would make me at least a little better."

"So then..." Apollo opened his eyes after his moment of thought, and scanned the room.

"I'm not entirely sure that he was stabbed with a knife. Look at the wounds. They're circular. I think the pan might have something to do with this... What if someone detached the handle from the pan, and sharpened it? Maybe I should search for traces of blood on some things."

"That's so...impractical...! I mean...what's the point of using the pan if there are several other butcher knives, and over all sharper objects than this...pan?"

Apollo poked his forehead once more. "Why go through all the trouble?"
