Not Alone

"Oh...?" Miles blushed a bit. "But it also said that Gumshoe and I were 98% compatible. I told you there was a reason I don't trust these things..."

"Oh? You don't think we're 100% compatible?" Phoenix asked.

"Well..." Miles thought about Phoenix's question. He blushed and stammered out, "Th-that's not the point! My point is that Gumshoe and I are NOT 98% compatible so there must be something wrong with it's equations!"

"So you're also saying that because it's wrong, we're not 100% compatible?" Phoenix asked, a little hurt. "I think it's right..."

"I'm not saying that OUR match is wrong, I'm saying that..." Miles raked his mind for the right words.

'Why is this so hard? Of course SOMETHING is wrong with the formula... I would never think of Gumshoe in a romantic manner! But Phoenix sounded... Am I...?'

"Then why is it wrong for you and Gumshoe?" Phoenix asked. "It should be the same formula..."

"I see Gumshoe as more of a lackey or a lower friend. I'm not trying to sound snobbish but that's how I see him. You, on the other hand, are an equal. Therefore, Gumshoe no, Phoenix yes." Miles slowly worked out. "Does it make sense?"

"I guess," Phoenix worked it out in his mind. "Yeah, I got it."

The awkward silence loomed over the pair as Miles thought of a new topic. "So..." He said after careful thought. "You like grey haired prosecutors?"

"Um...yeah..." Phoenix blushed a deep shade of red. "Does that make things awkward?"

"It all depends." Miles shrugged. 'He's kind of cute when he blushes...' It no longer bothered him that those thoughts were running through his head. He wasn't sure why, but it didn't.

"On what?" Phoenix looked up at Edgeworth questioningly. "Edgey?"

"Why do you like grey haired prosecutors, Nick?" Miles raised a questioning eyebrow at his friend. He knew the answer wouldn't matter but it didn't stop his curiosity.

"Um...'cause..." Phoenix searched his brain for a believable lie. "I really have a thing for Franziska?"

"Really now? I didn't know her whip left that much of an impression on you." Miles chuckled. "So, did the site give you guys a compatibility rating?"

"Yeah, we're about....15% compatible...." Phoenix tried to sound upset. "So I guess it'll never happen."

"You never know. Maybe some other prosecutor could catch your eye. I heard Winston's back on the market and looking for action!" Miles smirked.

'I just need him to crack... and find out what his real thoughts are. This testimony is laughably weak.'

"Ew!!" Phoenix exclaimed. "Payne? He's old enough to be my father!!"

"Why not? He should be going grey soon!" Miles laughed out. "Sorry, but I couldn't resist. There aren't many grey haired young female prosecutors. You might need to broaden your horizon."

"Like grey haired young male prosecutors?" Phoenix blushed even deeper.

'Why did I say that?? He's going to think I'm weird for sure....'

'Bingo.' Miles felt like he had just found the decisive evidence in a case.

"Well, I wasn't quite thinking that but... now that you mention it..."

"What are you thinking?" Phoenix looked at Edgeworth shyly. "What is it?"

"I was thinking... I might know someone who has a thing for spiky haired defense attorneys. What a coincidense, eh?" Miles started to walk closer to Phoenix.

"Really?" Phoenix blushed as he also began to move towards Edgeworth. "Who might that be?"

"For starters, you know the person, and it's a pretty new 'thing', if you want to call it that." Miles toyed with the slightly younger man. "He doesn't live too far from here, either."
