Not Alone

"I like to think so." Miles smirked as he took a bite of the potatoes. He felt his mouth heating up slightly. "Phoenix? What's in these potatoes? It's a little spicy."

"Nothing you've never had before," Phoenix said innocuously. "I thought you'd like the potatoes, Edgey."

"It's pretty good, from what I can tell. You're not too bad of a chef!" Miles chuckled as he continued to eat his meal.

"Why thank you, Edgeworth," Phoenix smiled as he ate. "Maya kind of taught me..."

"Really now? Training to be a housewife, I take it?" Miles joked as he continued to eat.

Phoenix chuckled, "Oh yes, all I need is the fifties style dress, and I'd be set. Maybe even score with the women."

"Ladies do love a man in drag. Especially ones who can cook. Just like they love the nerds." Miles gave his mouth a moment to cool down and returned to eating the other food on his plate.

"Because the ladies obviously can't get enough of you," Phoenix teased as he ate his mashed potatoes. "I can see why though. Who wouldn't fall for the stern, stoic prosecutor act?"

"Normal people. The only person who I can seem to attract is... Oldbag..." Miles shuddered at the sound of her name.

Phoenix snorted. "Gumshoe seems to have fallen prey to your charms, too," he pointed out.

"Then that means Larry fell for yours." Miles retorted. "We're just friends, Phoenix. Nothing more!"

"Who wouldn't fall for my charms?" Phoenix smirked. "I kind of am all that, after all."

"Sure you are. All that and a bag of Wasabi." Miles rolled his eyes. "You're sooooo hot, Phoenix."

"Damn straight," Phoenix grinned. "It's the hair, right?"

"Absolutely. I am absolutely smitten by the porcupine you call a head." Miles was absolutely deadpan when he spoke.

Phoenix frowned. "Porcupine? Isn't that a little bit harsh?"

"A little, but I think I'm well within my bounds to poke a little fun at you!" Miles smirked as he popped a shrimp into his mouth.

Phoenix touched his hair self consciously. "Well, alright then." He took a sip of water.

Miles sighed. "Do you want a compliment? Because I can give you a compliment or two."

"I do like compliments..." Phoenix replied sheepishly. "Just try not to be too terribly snide?"

"Who doesn't? And I can honestly say that, after today, you pretty much cemented yourself as a friend of mine." Miles smiled. "This is the most fun I've had in a long time."

"Really?" Phoenix tried not to blush. "You really think of me as a friend?"

"If I didn't, I would have left you at the mall or at most given you money for a cab." Miles nonchalantly continued eating the home cooked meal. "If we weren't friends after today then one of us would have to be clinically dead."

"Oh," Phoenix chewed that over along with his calamari. "Am I a better friend than Gumshoe?" he teased.

"Well, for starters, you treat me like an equal rather than an owner. Bless Gumshoe's heart but he's used to being treated like a dog so much that he acts like one." Miles shook his head in pity.
