An Average Day At Work

Phoenix squeezed Miles' hand gently, "Would you like to stay the night to protect me, Miles?" He smiled, and kissed his nose. "You don't have to if you'd rather not."

"I would be most honored, my liege." Miles bowed in mock formality. "But first I need to return home for a bit to turn off my lights and such. Left in a bit of a hurry, you know."

"Really?" Phoenix blushed slightly. He couldn't believe Miles had been so worried about him. He hugged his boyfriend tight. "I'll be waiting, stud," he joked.

"Heh... I'll be back as soon as I can." Miles returned the hug and made his way to his car. "I hope I didn't break the door TOO horribly... Since I know next to nothing about construction..."

Phoenix looked sadly at his door, then headed to his bedroom to get dressed for bed. He had a horrible sneezing fit, which had only happened...when he was dating her. He frowned in concern. Had she come back? Did someone channel her again? He laughed at the absurdity of this last thought, thinking nobody would be that stupid to channel Dollie. Still...he shuddered and changed into his flannel pajamas, then got in bed and waited for Miles to return.

Miles had arrived at his house and opened the door when he was immediately pounced upon by Paco, his English Mastiff. "Hey, boy! Sorry, but I can't stay too long... Daddy made a bit of a mess at Feenie's house and I need to take care of it." He pushed past his dog and began to turn the lights off in his house.

Before leaving, Miles remembered the wine and pizza left from earlier. "Might as well take this, lest it go to waste." He took the pizza box and bottle to his car then locked up his house and made the journey back to the apartment with the broken door.

Phoenix was lying in bed, reading a novel as he awaited Edgeworth's return. He idly flipped a page, wondering what Edgey and Mia had been working on, if not secret elopement plans. He yawned and shrugged. not wanting to think too much about it.

Miles pulled into the same spot outside Phoenix's apartment complex and started up the stairs, wine and pizza in tow. He almost knocked on the door out of habit but remembered the door wasn't there because of him. "Phoenix? I'm back!" He called.

"I'm in the bedroom!" Phoenix called back, not looking up from his book. "Come on in, Miles!"

Miles made his way back to the bedroom, still carrying the extremely late dinner. "Hey. Did you miss me?"

"Of course," Phoenix smiled and put his book down on the table beside him. "How could I not, macho man?"

"Great, now I have to keep up my macho man front, even with a huge bruise potentially forming on my shoulder. On a completely unrelated note, your 'macho man' has brought cold pizza and wine, if you're hungry." Miles chuckled at his new nickname as he presented his meager offerings as if they were a fine steak and a bottle of Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Pinotage.

"You're amazing," Phoenix smiled and kissed his cheek. "And so fancy, I didn't know macho men could be fancy!" He chuckled, and took a slice of pizza.

"Maybe I can be a macho gentleman? Wear a muscle shirt with a top hat and monocle." Miles took a slice of pizza as well and began to nibble on it.

Phoenix chuckled, "Objection! That's the most absurd mental image I've ever had in my life!"

"That was my plan." Miles smiled a he took another bite of his pizza. 'I always forget how much I love his laugh!'

Phoenix chewed thoughtfully, "Hey, Miles, what do you think everyone's doing tonight?" He smiled as he pondered. "I mean...Franziska's probably drinking herself to liver disease...Maya's probably trying to steal Trucy's Samurai merch..."

"I don't think that Franziska's going to be able to do that. She's been known to hold her liquor very well. At least... I think she can." Miles thought about any of his other friends. "Detective Gumshoe is probably looking for change on the street for food." He would have laughed if it weren't possibly true.

"That's terrible," Phoenix frowned. "It must suck to be him....I almost want to adopt him...But that'd be the worst idea ever."

"Maybe we can take him to dinner one night?" Miles suggested. "It'd be good for him to get at least one wholesome meal."

"Agreed," Phoenix yawned tiredly. "Think we should get some sleep now? It's pretty late..."

"If you want to. I'm gonna stay up a bit longer just to make sure that nobody's going to take advantage of an open room. Especially when then man who did it is still here." Miles smiled. "Maybe I should sleep on the couch or something so I can be closer to the door..."

"Like you'd ever take advantage of me," Phoenix chuckled. "I'd feel much safer knowing you were right next to me, Miles."

"Heh, Alright." Miles lightly kissed Phoenix's nose. "If it will make you feel safer, I'll stay here all night."

"Thank you, Miles," Phoenix kissed his cheek gently and snuggled close to him. "I do love our sleep-overs."
