Just Another Day

"I'm always in the mood to find new places to eat. And since you're the one paying you should have first say in where we're going." Miles shrugged and continued eating his muffin.

"Alright then," Phoenix checked his watch. "What time do you have to be at your office?" He finished his muffin. "I don't have to be in until ten today, and it's already eight o'clock."

"Nine thirty. But I do need to get home to change and feed Paco, which will take some time." Miles scratched his head in thought. "So if you could take me home around eight thirty that'd be good."

"Alright then," Phoenix took another muffin. "How long have you had Paco?" He just couldn't imagine Edgeworth taking in such a pet. A cat, yes. But a mastiff? It was hard to fathom.

"About two years. I figured living alone in such a big house wasn't good so I got a dog. They told me he was fully grown when I got him but that was a lie." Miles sighed and finished his muffin. "But I grew to love the guy."

"Interesting," Phoenix turned on the news channel to see the weather. "I'm sorry if it seems like I'm playing twenty questions. Just, I haven't seen you since we were eight."

"Eh, I don't mind it. Makes me feel like we're friends." Miles listened intently to the weather report to decide whether or not he needed to bring an umbrella.

"Alright Edgey," Phoenix looked out the window at the grey skies ahead. "I hope Maya's alright...She said she was going to be training all day, every day, for a week, in the mountains." He sighed, worried something might happen to her.

"Didn't she grow up out there? She should be fine." Miles shrugged, indifferent to the whole situation.

"Yeah, but she's never been alone before," Phoenix frowned. "I guess it is a little dumb to worry, we are talking about Maya." He chuckled. "You're lucky your assistant is older, you know."

"Me? Lucky? Detective Gumshoe, with the utmost respect to him, couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag." Miles laughed. "At least he is responsible enough to tell me where he is."

Phoenix smiled, "Yeah, he is kind of oblivious." He checked his watch and found that it was almost eight thirty. "We should start heading out now, don't want you to be late, do we?"

"Right, right." Miles got up and went to wash his hands. "Oh yeah, when we get to my house can you watch Paco for a bit? He's probably worried about me and will be all over me when I walk through the door."

"Sure thing," Phoenix headed to his car and started the engine. He carefully left the parking lot, then floored the gas pedal as he went onto the open road.
